Eritrea

Eritrea, Highlands to Islands

Eritrea feels like a hidden world, a place behind a secret door. From the outside, it is almost invisible, but stepping inside reveals a mosaic — layers of history that coexist without the present and a tapestry of landscapes that exist outside the rush of the modern world. It’s a place where the past lingers, the present holds its breath, and the future seems as distant as the horizon over the Red Sea.

Explore Eritrea's Dahlak archipelago

Get lost in Asmara, an art deco dream

In a world where we believe there is nothing left to discover…there is still so much to explore

Alive with the echoes of another era, time doesn’t move here, it drifts - through streets framed by crumbling art deco buildings, classic cinemas and cafés humming with conversation and the sound of old Italian coffee machines.

Dahlak Archipelago, Red Sea Coast

Just beyond Massawa lies the Dahlak Archipelago, a string of over 100 islands standing like sentinels along Eritrea’s Red Sea coast. Here, the abundance of seabirds, the richness of coral reefs, the vibrance of marine life are all testament to nature that has reached, almost untouched, the beginning of the 21st century.

Seven days is the minimum trip duration we offer for Eritrea.

Longer itineraries can be designed for those who wish to explore the country more extensively, including the possibility of exploring parts of the Dahlak Archipelago.

The best time to visit Eritrea is between November and April.

During European summer months, temperatures are too hot to travel comfortably in many parts of the country.

We will arrange all aspects of your travel while you are in Eritrea including accommodation, vehicles, meals, local permits and guides.

Visas are required for Eritrea. Röam will facilitate invitation letters to support your visa application process.

The Dahlak islands are a remote destination, and this means that there may be certain factors beyond our control, even with the most careful of travel planning.

We strive to create enjoyable and seamless experiences, but we ask that you bear this reality in mind and maintain flexibility and understanding regarding unexpected changes when planning your expedition with us.
